You will not believe how easy to make these lovely red whiteand blue cupcakes are! With insanely affordable and uncomplicated ingredients, theyare absolutely perfect as 4th of July dessert or for captain Americabirthday theme party!
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F for atleast 15 minutes.
Prepare the cupcake pan by lining cupcake liners on the pan and set it aside.
In making the batter, I suggest not to follow the ingredients on the cake mix box because in the box recipe I replaced the water with milk, increased the number of eggs, and replace oil with butter. To make the batter, in a bowl, combine cake mix, milk, butter and eggs using a whisk or a mixer until smooth.
Divide the batter in 3 separate bowls. With the two bowls for red and blue color batter.
Put droplets of red food color in the first bowl, and blue food color in the next bowl. Follow the box of food color instructions on how to achieve the right colors as desired. Now you have 3 bowls of batter – red, white, and blue.
Spoon the batter to the prepared cupcake pan with cupcake liners approximately 3 tablespoons (a spoon of each color) of batter or just half of the pan.Do not fill the cup because it will overflow once baked. You can start with either blue or red, then white batter. You can spoon them overlapping each other for as long as the 3 colors are visible on top. Or you can layer them if you like.
Bake for 18 to 22 minutes.
Let it cool and set aside.
Transfer your frosting into a cake piping kit. You can use any piping tip you like. Swirl the frosting on top of the cupcake. You may also want to add red and blue colors to the piping bag for a tricolor frosting.
