I always wanted to try making these cupcakes because of their gorgeous popping color and finally I was able to. They look so bright and beautiful, and will surely please the crowd on any party celebration.

Aside from being delectable to the eyes, these pillowy cupcakes are ultra-moist and cakey-soft.

For less than 10 dollars, you will be able to make these cupcakes! You will find every ingredient in a dollar store – White cake mix, butter, eggs, milk, frosting, food color, sprinkles and cupcake liners! Except maybe for the star sprinkles, I bought them on Amazon.

How to Make these Easy Red White and Blue Cupcakes?

To make this 4th of July cupcake dessert, you will need to gather ingredients and prepare some tools.

    Ingredients

Amazingly inexpensive ingredients that you can buy in a dollar store!

White Cake Mix. You can buy any brand for as long as it is white. I suggest not to copy the ingredients in the box to make the batter. One box is good for 20-24 cupcakes.

Milk. The batter calls for 1 cup of water, but I replaced it with 1 cup of milk.

Unsalted Butter. Instead of oil, I used ⅔ cup of melted butter.

Eggs. I increase the number of eggs from 3 to 5. You may also use just the egg whites.

Food Color. One box of food color contains red, blue, green and yellow. You will only need the red and blue color for the batter. You can also add colors to the frosting while piping.

Vanilla Frosting. You can totally make your own frosting if you do not want the super sweet frosting from the stores. You will need 3 packages of frosting to top all 24 cupcakes.

Sprinkles. Red, white and blue sprinkles. The star sprinkles, I purchased them online.

    Tools

Here are the equipment you need to make these 4th of July dessert.

If you are new to baking, you can also buy these tools in a dollar store except maybe for the hand mixer and oven.

Every household in America has an oven, coming from Asia, oven is not a necessity at all, that is why most of Asian cuisines are sautéed or stewed.

    • Bowls. You will need 3 bowls, one for each color.
    • Whisk or handmixer
    • Cupcake pan
    • Cupcake liners
    • Spoons
    • Measuring cup
    • Cake Piping kit
    • Oven

One tip I learned in baking is to use an oven thermometer to get the exact oven temperature. Preheating the oven in the exact temperature is always recommended.

One technique I use to make sure that the oven is preheated in just the right temperature is to heat the oven for about 15 minutes. You may also use this method if you don't have an oven thermometer.

On to the Steps on Making These Easy Red White and Blue Cupcakes

Do not forget to wash your hands before touching any food! ?

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F for atleast 15 minutes.

Prepare the cupcake pan by lining cupcake liners on the pan and set it aside.

In making the batter, I suggest not to follow the ingredients on the cake mix box because in the box recipe I replaced the water with milk, increased the number of eggs, and replace oil with butter.

To make the batter, in a bowl, combine cake mix, milk, butter and eggs using a whisk or a mixer until smooth.

Divide the batter in 3 separate bowls. With the two bowls for red and blue color batter.

Put droplets of red food color in the first bowl, and blue food color in the next bowl. Follow the box of food color instructions on how to achieve the right colors as desired. Now you have 3 bowls of batter – red, white, and blue.

Spoon the batter to the prepared cupcake pan with cupcake liners approximately 3 tablespoons (a spoon of each color) of batter or just half of the pan.

Do not fill the cup because it will overflow once baked. You can start with either blue or red, then white batter. You can spoon them overlapping each other for as long as the 3 colors are visible on top. Or you can layer them if you like.

Bake for 18 to 22 minutes.

Let it cool and set aside.

Transfer your frosting into a cake piping kit. You can use any piping tip you like. Swirl the frosting on top of the cupcake. You may also want to add red and blue colors to the piping bag for a tricolor frosting.

Sprinkle in some red, white, and blue sprinkles.

    Enjoy!

Now time to paint the town red, white, and blue!
